Nursery Rhymes

As a heads up, we will be working in-depth with nine nursery rhymes this year.  Yes, we'll learn more poems than that, but the following nine are going to be heavily used to teach various concepts. Please say the rhymes at home with your child, or watch the videos with your child, but don't try to have him/her read the text. We're just practicing saying them aloud and acting them out.  It is important that when you say them, you say them the same way they are written here.

Five Little Monkeys
Five little monkeys jumping on the bed,
One fell off and bumped his head.
Momma called the doctor and the doctor said,
"No more monkeys jumping on the bed!"

Baa Baa Black Sheep
Baa, baa, black sheep,
Have you any wool?
Yes, sir, yes, sir,
Three bags full.

Jack and Jill
Jack and Jill went up the hill
To fetch a pail of water.
Jack fell down and broke his crown
And Jill came tumbling after.

Hickory Dickory Dock
Hickory Dickory Dock,
The mouse ran up the clock.
The clock struck one,
The mouse ran down,
Hickory Dickory Dock.

Itsy Bitsy Spider
The itsy bitsy spider went up the water spout.
Down came the rain and washed the spider out.
Out came the sun and dried up all the rain,
And the itsy bitsy spider went up the spout again.

**This video cracks me up because it literally
repeats over and over for three and a half minutes.
Please be warned before you play it. ;)
Though, it will help your child learn the rhyme!**

I'm a Little Teapot
I'm a little teapot, short and stout.
Here is my handle, here is my spout.
When I get all steamed up, hear me shout,
"Tip me over and pour me out!"

Five Little Ducks
Five little ducks went out one day,
Over the hill and far away.
Mother duck said, "Quack, quack, quack, quack."
But only four little ducks came back.

**This video has a 30 second ad at the end which is kind of annoying,
but it's the best video that matches the words correctly. Just skip the last part!**

Five Little Speckled Frogs
Five little speckled frogs, sitting on a hollow log,
Eating some most delicious bugs. Yum, yum!
One jumped in to the pool, where it was nice and cool.
Now there are four speckled frogs. Glub, Glub.

**Apparently no one (but us) uses this form of the poem so it's
literally impossible to find a video with matching words. Sorry.
I listened to all of the YouTube videos for 'Five Little Speckled Frogs'
over the last hour and now have the song stuck in my head for life.
This one is as close as I can find for you and your child to get the tune.**

Old MacDonald
Old MacDonald had a farm, E-I-E-I-O,
And on his farm he had a cow, E-I-E-I-O,
With a moo moo here and a moo moo there,
Here a moo, there a moo, everywhere a moo moo.
Old MacDonald had a farm, E-I-E-I-O.

As always, owl be teaching you tomorrow!
